April is a time of renewal of the earth. Soon the mounds of snow will melt and the bare trees will begin again to be clothed in leaves. I am already enjoying crocus in bloom. Genesis speaks of the creation of the world but the inconvenient truth is that man has polluted and despoiled much of creation. Kirkridge offers several opportunities to re-connect with creation. The grounds, trails and labyrinth are always open for your enjoyment. The weekend of April 20-22 is a time to come and help care for the land during a work weekend of clearing, raking, and planting. The following weekend, join Larry Rasmussens workshop entitled Earth-Honoring Faith: A Song of Songs.
The Book Nest has a wide selection of books related to nature and ecology, including nature guides of trees, wildflowers, butterflies, birds, animal tracks and books of more depth including: The Wisdom of Trees, Myths of the Sacred Tree, Finding God in the Singing River, Great Waters, The Little Earth Book, The Man who Planted Trees, The Secret Life of Water, Sacred Balance, 500 ways to Change the World, Earth Prayers, Dream of the Earth, Evening Thoughts: Reflections on Earth as Sacred Community and many more. Additionally, the Celtic and Native American book sections contain earth honoring books.
